The Beaujolais region stretches from the granite-based hills just south of Mâcon to the southern end of Burgundy and is famous for its relatively light and extremely fruity wines made from the Gamay grape.
These are ultra-fresh, aromatic wines that refresh the palate with wonderful vibrant fruit. Ideal for summer drinking!
The Beaujolais case costs £88 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.
Beaujolais 2007, Loron et Fils: Loron are a sizeable negociant and vineyard owner with about 50 hectares of vines in Beaujolais. The purple-tinged wine is light, juicy and really refreshing with bright, vibrant fruit and delicious raspberry flavours.
Beaujolais-Villages 2006, Domaine du Tracot: Owned by the Dubost family, Domaine du Tracot's wine is deep purple-ruby in colour with aromas of black plums and raspberries. On the palate, freshly crushed black cherry and raspberry fruit mixes with cinnamon and ground cloves - delicious.
Morgon 2006, Domaine de Robert: From one of the ten villages that make up the 'Crus' of Beaujolais, Patrick Brunet has produced a wine from 65-year-old vines that has stunning aromatic flavours of ripe plums, raspberries and cherries. A fuller, deeper and complex style of Beaujolais.
Regnie 2006, Domaine du Tracot: Another stunning wine from Dubost, this wine has both juicy freshness and great depth of ripe raspberry fruit, with a touch of black cherry in the background. The perfect summer red!

One of the pictures on this page gives a good impression of the delights to be enjoyed at the Mole and Chicken on one of those sunny days that now seem as far as can be from our present situation.
Next week is The Oxford Times Wine Club Christmas Tasting and, with just four weeks to go until Christmas Day, it is an excellent opportunity to sample a specially-selected range of wines for the festive season.
‘I was the first person to discover that if you infected a person with Marmite, he would stand up and bark at the moon.” “Everybody under the age of 35 has the intelligence of raspberry jam.” “Children can hear vegetables hiding.”
There’s nothing King Couer-de-Loup likes more than a good battle: “We’ll march on King Florizel’s wet and wicked army,” he proclaims. His Queen is not so sure, however. She would rather her husband stayed around: there’s the christening of their daughter Princess Aurora to arrange for a start. And he certainly can’t go out and fight looking like that: “Your chain mail’s got a ladder in it,” she wails.
