Wines with shellfish case, £83
This time of year, shellfish and particularly crab come into their own and can make some delicious pre-Easter dishes. Here are some suggestions for the right wines to partner them.
The wines with shellfish case costs £83 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.
Sauvignon de Touraine Domaine Guy Allion 2006, Loire: Shellfish demands ultra-crisp, fresh and minerally wines - all attributes you'll find abundant in this fine Loire sauvignon blanc which is full of mouthwatering fruit. Delicious!
Muscadet de Sevre et Maine sur Lie, Selection de Hauts Pemions 2006, Loire: The ultimate shellfish match. This is serious top-class example of Muscadet at its best. A far cry from your basic examples, this sur Lie has plenty of refreshing fruit to balance its mouthwatering crispness which complements the shellfish and cuts through any sauces that may accompany the dish.
Petit Chablis Justin Nocevin 2006, Burgundy: Another perfect partner for shellfish, this Chablis from northern Burgundy has wonderful steely minerality and abundant fruit that is an ideal partner for mussels in particular.
Touraine Cabernet Franc Les Quatre Pierres, Guy Allion 2005, Loire:
Crab can go well with either white or red wine, so for those who prefer a spot of red here is a great matching wine from the Loire Valley. This has smoky, redcurrant fruit and plenty of minerally crispness to cut through and blend with the lighter and darker meats from the crab. Great for most types of warm crab dishes.
