With the final day of the Cheltenham Gold Cup today you may feel in the mood to celebrate your winnings (or maybe even drown your sorrows!) - but even if the country's top horse racing event is not to your taste the wines in this week's offer will certainly prove to be a great mood lifter in most circumstances. Prosecco Sestiere Castello 4357 NV, Italy: Prosecco has become the "in" sparkler recently and it's easy to see why. This dry yet soft example has delicious flavours of ripe pears and apples. A perfect celebratory drink on its own or try adding some peach juice to make a Bellini.
Varichon & Clerc Privilege Rose NV, France: From the Savoie region of France near to Lake Geneva, this ever popular rosé sparkling wine is crisp, lively and delightfully aromatic - a great favourite which again reflects the current trend for rosé sparklers.
Montes Classic Series Merlot 2006, Chile: Aurelio Montes is the man credited with lifting the image of Chilean wines towards the quality end of market with wines like this ultra-rich merlot with its dark chocolatey fruit and amazing depth and concentration.
Carta Vieja Reserve Late Harvest 2005, Chile (50cl bottle): A golden wine for a Gold Cup. Made from late picked sauvignon and semillon grapes, this luscious Chilean dessert wine has bright honeyed and citrus flavours making it deep, crisp and wonderfully rich.
