Men's Division 1 champions Cholsey look to have avoided the ignominy of being relegated a year after winning the Wilson OLTA League's 2-Pair League title.
They won 2.5-1.5 at Oxford City A to climb out of the bottom two for the first time in weeks.
Pat Clayphan and Richard May were in top form, winning all their sets, with second pair Alastair McKinlay and Giles Barwell managing a crucial half, 7-5, 4-6 against City's top pair of Duncan Lockett and Alistair Gillan.
City themselves are by no means out of the woods and are now relying on Oxford Sports A losing both their remaining matches.
Banbury West End's women avoided relegation from Ladies Division 1 by defeating Faringdon 4-0 in their final match, to send Kingston Bagpuize and Esporta down.
Wendy Eve Dickins and Alison Goult came through two tough sets to beat Julianne Spiers and Alison Scott 6-4, 7-5 while Sue Jelfs and Andi Padbury convincingly won both their matches.

Next week is The Oxford Times Wine Club Christmas Tasting and, with just four weeks to go until Christmas Day, it is an excellent opportunity to sample a specially-selected range of wines for the festive season.
One of the pictures on this page gives a good impression of the delights to be enjoyed at the Mole and Chicken on one of those sunny days that now seem as far as can be from our present situation.
I had trouble shifting my +1 for the musical Imagine This, which opened last week at the New London Theatre. No-one was interested (one German friend would have come, but funnily enough I hadn’t thought to ask him), and while nobody actually said, “Sounds like a gas”, there were plenty of unprintable responses, averaging out at: “Holocaust – the musical? Um, no thanks . . . ”
Another winter rolls in and, to cheer our spirits, Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company travel hither and yon through the county with colour, music and fun trailing in their wake. For those of us who live in villages these harbingers of the festive season are a welcome sight.
