SPEEDWAY: Nielsen to make rare appearance
Hans Nielsen
Hans Nielsen

Oxford Speedway's all-time legend Hans Nielsen will make a rare public appearance in this country at the weekend, writes ROBERT PEASLEY.

The Dane won three of his four World Championship titles during an impressive nine-year spell with the Cheetahs between 1984 and 1992.

He will be the guest of honour in the Alan Hunt Memorial Trophy at Birmingham on Sunday, starting at 6pm.

Former Oxford riders Steve Johnston, Lubos Tomicek and David Howe are all in the line-up for the meeting.

For Johnston, this season marks his testimonial year as it is ten years since he became a Cheetahs asset.

With no action taking place at Oxford Stadium this season, Johnston's testimonial meeting will be staged at Coventry on June 22.

  • Oxford Speedway Supporters' Club hold their annual meeting at the Kidlington Green Social Club on Friday, April 18.
