SPEEDWAY Fans may still see action

Oxford Cheetahs are set to miss out on a 60th successive season of league speedway - but there is still hope that some action could take place at Cowley this season.

The meeting of Conference League chairman takes place next Wednesday, with the Cheetahs no further forward in finding out the plans of stadium landlords, the Greyhound Racing Association (GRA).

There may be a chance of a late entry in February or March - as the semi-professional Conference League is easily the most flexible of the three leagues in Britain.

But, in the meantime, the campaign to hold some money-spinning Elite League major events at Sandy Lane is gaining momentum.

Poole boss Matt Ford, an influential figure within the sport, said: "We need to do everything we can to keep Oxford going, for the benefit of British speedway in general.

"I would be more than happy for the Elite League Riders' Championship, the EL Best Pairs and the senior and junior British Finals to go to Oxford."

Meanwhile, SOS (Save Our Speedway) representative Chris Brown has been given the opportunity to address a full meeting of Oxford City Council on Monday.

This has been granted as an emergency measure and he will have five minutes to inform the full council of the speedway's plight and how they can assist.

With the current uncertainty, the Supporters' Club have postponed their AGM, which was due to take place at the stadium next Friday.
