CRICKET: Wallingford crowned champs

Wallingford are champions after beating Bourton Vale 2nd by 27 runs to open up an unassailable lead at the top of the Division 6 table.

The day started badly for Wallingford as they lost the toss, but went well thereafter as they scored 187-7 and then bowled out Vale for 160.

Nigel Felicien took 7-31 as Thame Town 2nd maintained their promotion push by dismissing Bledlow Village 2nd for 88.

Earlier Stephen Beard had hit 52 and Neville Linnell had taken 5-64 in Thame's 139 all out.

Horspath 2nd are also in with a shout of going up, but if they do not make it they will rue missing the chance to claim maximum points at Long Marston 2nd.

Sharaz Rana hit 115 and Tom Holmes 76 not out as Horspath amassed 241-3 after being put in to bat, but Marston defied the visitors' attack to close on 165-7 with Andrew Pierce 57 not out.

Oxford 3rd could also still go up, but lost ground in a heavy defeat at promotion rivals Bledlow Ridge 2nd.

Mark Sheehan hit 64 in Oxford's 218 all out, which also featured a hat-trick from Henry Hale and a fine spell by Malcolm Ashby (5-68).

Ashby then hit 93 not out and with Geoff Tombs (70no) saw Ridge home for the loss of one wicket.

Stanton St John Willows were made to pay for dropping Wolverton Town 2nd opener Greg Gillin three times as he went on to score an unbeaten 96 in Town's seven-wicket win.

Earlier Peter Dela (43) had given Willows a decent start, but they collapsed from 93-3 to 117-8 against spinners Matthew Chammings (5-37) and Wasim Fayyaz (4-18).

Youngsters Daniel Todd and Ceri Holmes added 53 for the ninth wicket before the hosts were all out for 172.

Willows lost five points for failing to provide an umpire and are sure to finish bottom.
