New players 'must get used to expectation'

Goalkeeper Billy Turley says there is no need to panic, Oxford United will be all right when they get key players back and match sharp.

"We've got a lot of new players in and it takes time to settle," he said.

"It's a new scenario as well for the new players, they're at a club where they're expected to win every game.

"I think it will maybe take three or four weeks to acclimatise to that. It's different to where you're at teams whose target is mid-table.

"When you've got five or six new players in a team - and we've had a couple of bad injuries as well - they need time to gel.

"Obviously, Jamie Guy did fantastic pre-season, it was a major blow for him to pull his hamstring.

"Nobody should be panicking. Once we get the big players back, we'll be all right."

You can't help but feel, as the words came out of his mouth about the "big players", that Elvis was modestly referring to himself!

Turley is now back in full training after his shoulder op, and might not be too far away from returning.

Darren Patterson says there's little more the management can do, it's now up to the players to produce.

"We can't work any harder because it's impossible for us to do that," he said.

"Off the pitch, we're looking at everything we do, analysing what we're doing, looking at systems, looking at players, we're looking at any which way we can to help our players improve out on the pitch."

ALEX Fisher took a knock in a practice game against Aldershot on Tuesday and is now a doubt for tomorrow's game at Ebbsfleet.

The idea of the friendly, at Milton, was to give younger players a run-out who hadn't featured much.

Luke Foster also played after missing the last Blue Square Premier match through suspension. The Shots won 1-0.

But Joe Burnell stands a good chance of returning to the midfield after stepping up his training following an ankle sprain.

More like they are looking forward to their wages being paid into their accounts.
It does'nt matter how well they play they still get paid.

Whatever the reason for the diabolical and dire start to the season- it's down to the manager to sort it out asap.
Trouble is imho the manager and players seem to be in a comfort zone, the players as pointed out appear happy to take the wages whilst hardly busting a gut for the cause, and the manager probally feels he is unlikely to be sacked due to the desperate financial situation the Club is in- could they afford to recruit yet another, and if they could would his credentials be any better than the dross we have had for years???
If we fail to win tommorrow the dark clo uds will gather once more, and it's going to be a very l o n g season..

Sounds like Emu is missing Rod Hull's hand up his ar5e. I suggest you go and waste your breathe elsewhere - you're boring me with the same old pathetic wind up routine of yours. Looking forward to a win on Saturday to begin a bit of much needed momentum!

The comments attributed to Both Patto and Turley explain clearly to me why this team of ours is failing so miserably, the Manager and training staff cant do any more and Turleys comment that we fans expect more than a mid table finish, which we do and have every right to expect from a club with one of the biggest budgets (based on gate receipts)shows that he thinks we DO EXPECT MORE THAN THE PLAYERS ARE PREPARED TO DELIVER, WHAT A LOAD OF TOSH, i remember Chris Wilmott in the season we were relegated saying he and other players expected another club to fall away (implying it would leave OUFC safe) IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT RESULTS WE GOT, when players make non-sensical comments like these it makes me realise that they arent the players to deliver what the fans want, we really are awful fans to hope and expect this club to give us something to cheer and be proud of and after nearly 50 years supporting OUFC i really feel this latest bunch of players arent worth supporting, for me a home game is a 320 mile plus round trip and i do it in the hope i will see a reasonable game and be able to applaud my team off in victory, something of a rare event lately, maybe the time has come to find some gardening to do on saturdays from now on, you PLAYERS REALLY DONT DESERVE THE SUPPORT YOU GET PLAYING FOR OUFC. EITHER DELIVER OR BUGGAR OFF!
