Andy Green, a chiropractor who has been head coach at Headington School for the past eight years, will be the next Oxford University Women's Boat Race coach.

Green will take over from Ian Shore after the 2008 Boat Race.

Shore, who has been in charge of the Oxford women through a successful seven years, has been appointed chief coach to the Welsh squad.

Shore will run both the Oxford and Welsh programmes until the March Boat Race, after which Green will take over completely.

He will join Shore on some training camps before then, initially the one in Belgium in early January.

Ryan Demaine, the Headington Rowing Director, accepts Green's great contribution to school's success.

He said: "Oxford are lucky to have him. He is a man to raise the profile of women's rowing.' Rachel Quarrell, chairman of the Oxford Women's Committee, did not hide her delight.

"Ian has built up a strong programme and it was important we appointed the right person to take OUWBC into the next era.

Green himself commented: " I am torn at leaving Headington, but I needed a new challenge."
