Jim Drohan, the Chairman of City of Oxford RC, has high hopes for the club this year after some of City's 300 members produced a pennant winning day at the Wycliffe Head, writes Mike Rosewell.

City headed no less than eight divisions of the race, five courtesy of their women and three achieved by their men.

The only other successful locals were Radley, who won a heavily contested senior 3 eights and the junior 16 eights, where they were followed home by neighbors St Edward's.

City of Oxford captain Chris Thomson has overall guidance over three squads - the senior men, led by Steve Salter, the senior women, captained by Rachaeal Luxton, and the juniors, coordinated by Suzy Drohan.

The juniors are part of the national project 'Oarsome' linked to Cheney and St Gregory the Great schools in Oxford.

Drohan said: "We aim to compete at provincial, regional and national level through 2007."

The main aims are the Henley regattas and the national championships. The club's juniors have their minds set on the National School Regatta and the National Championships.

During the year, they will stage the City Bumps, Oxford Royal Regatta, Oxford Sprint Regatta and the Isis Sculls.
