GOLF: Holder comes fifth

Tilly Holder finished an impressive joint fifth in the Roehampton Gold Cup after rounds of 77 and 76.

The Oxford Ladies member was the second amateur, just a shot behind Emilee Taylor from Gainsborough, and beat a number of professionals.

  • The Wychwood's Bill Pollard ended up in hospital after being struck on the head by a ball played by winner Terry Johnson during their Blind Golfers Charity Competition.

After a few stitches and a blinding headache, Pollard is recovering well

  • Burford's 36-hole pro-am takes place on Saturday, starting at 8am.

Dusan Gavrilovic (Magnolia Park), Paul Simpson (West Berks) and Derek Craik jnr (Frilford Heath) are among the local pros taking part.

  • Former Walker Cup player John Parry held his nerve to win the PartyPoker.com PGA EuroPro Tour Qualifying School at Frilford Heath.

Parry (Harrogate) finished on four-under-par, one shot ahead of former amateur world No 1 Jamie Moul (Stoke by Nayland) and two clear of Simon Thornton (Royal County Down).
