ATHLETICS: Headington trio crowned champs

Headington Roadrunners trio Jude Craft, Phillippa Prescott and Chris Dettmar all landed titles following the final round of the Chiltern Cross Country League at Wing, Buckinghamshire on Saturday.

Craft romped to an impressive victory in the senior/veterans ladies' race, clocking 21mins 55secs, to secure both the vet 35 and overall women's titles.

Prescott, another member of Headington Roadrunners, landed the senior women's title with her first-claim club Bedford.

And teammate Dettmar finished third in the men's race in 31.09, which was enough to give him the senior men's honours and second place in the overall contest.

Meanwhile, it was a superb day for Oxford City's juniors as they secured several medals.

Leading the way were the under 13 girls' team, who wrapped up a title triumph by 81 points ahead of Bedford & County, while Imogen Kempton, who finished second in the final race, secured the overall under 13 girls' title.

Lauren Hawtin finished fourth on the day to seal the silver medal.

City's team victory was aided with Rebecca Byren finishing seventh, Hannah Byren 12th, Imogen van Zyl 14th and Elissa Clarke coming home 23rd.

In the under 15 girls' competition, Melissa Hawtin had already confirmed the individual gold.

But a brave effort through the mud from Ellie Clarke-Jacques, Jade Walker and Hannah Sangan wrapped up team silver.

Swords finished fourth, Clarke-Jacques seventh, Walker 11th and Sangan 19th.

The medals continued to come for City, Beth Hawtin finishing third in the under 11 girls' race to take overall silver.

In the senior section, Kriisi Radley finished 36th in the senior ladies' comp- etition.
