A TENNIS club in Oxford has scooped a national prize.

Premier Tennis at Cowley’s Florence Park was named ‘Park Venue of the Year’ at the 2023 LTA [Lawn Tennis Association] Tennis Awards.

The club was recognised for its work in growing tennis in the city, with almost 2,000 unique users.

Ed Isard, director of Premier Tennis, said: “It feels a great honour but well-deserved considering how much hard work has gone into it.

“We've been working closely with Oxford City Council for several years now, providing a whole range of coaching sessions, but also just engaging with the local community and different social groups.

“We’ve just been trying to really activate the courts more and get more people playing tennis throughout the whole year and it’s gone well.”

Florence Park coach Jose Costa added: “It’s been a very successful year, we’ve been engaging with the local community.

“We’re bringing more people to the sport, which is trying to make people more active and has been very successful.

“We’re very happy to receive this award and we’re going to keep continuing this work and hopefully, more prizes will come, and more people will play tennis in the future.”
