Landlord issues call to patriots
Flying the flag: Damian Cawood with Andrea Hutchinson
Flying the flag: Damian Cawood with Andrea Hutchinson

PUBLICAN Damian Cawood has urged Oxfordshire's men and women to get patriotic today by toasting the spot where St George vanquished the dragon.

The landlord of the Fox and Hounds in High Street, Uffington, said legend had it that England's patron saint defeated the dragon on a hill on to which his pub looks.

He claimed a chalk stain on the hill is said to show where the dragon's blood was spilled, causing no grass to ever grow there since.

To celebrate the legendary battle the landlord has organised Morris dancers and a feast at his pub tonight.

He said: "It is very important to celebrate St George's Day. It is great to celebrate being English - and it is also the start of the summer.

"We should never forget we are still Englishmen."

Great to see the pub taking up the story of Dragon Hill just above Uffington, and just below the White Horse Hill. We'll be down for the buffet, Morris Men and guest ales tonight. See you tonight, Sean

A Huge Thank you to all who came and showed their support for the Uffington St Georges day celebrations. From Everyone here at the Fox and Hounds Uffington a huge thanks to the Icknield Way Morris Men for providing some truely high energy English family fun. I hope this can be a turning point across the country and we as English men can lose the stiff upper lip and rejoice.
Damian.
