A group of churches is hoping a day of free fun for all the family will bring an Oxford community out for the day this weekend.

Churches Together in Headington has organised the third Summer Family Funday, at Bury Knowle Park, today between 2pm and 5pm.

Minister James Bloice Smith, of Headington Baptist Church, said: "It's a completely free offering by the churches for the local community and we want everyone to have fun.

"By making it free for everything - even the drinks and cakes will be free - we are hoping lots of people will come out and have a good time.

"The main idea is to support families in what they're doing and it will be a great event for everyone."

Last year's event attracted more than 3,000 people over the course of the day.

Mr Bloice Smith said he was hoping the weather this year would be kinder than the previous two years.

He said: "Two years ago, we got completely blown away and we lost four gazebos. Last year we had lots of rain."

He added: "But there will be lots of things for people to do. We will have tug-of-war competitions, face paintings, a wind tunnel that kids can run through and model making.

"There will also be karaoke and some drama going on."

Mr Bloice Smith also praised the work of Daniel Evenhuis and the Fusion Youth and Community Group, which has helped organise the event.
