Update: Crash closes A34
5:30pm Monday 10th December 2007
LONG delays built up on the A34 this afternoon after four vehicles were in collision.
Emergency services were called at about 12.15pm after three lorries and a white Mercedes Sprinter van were involved in the crash on the northbound carriageway near Weston-on-the-Green.
The A34 was closed for about two hours and was not fully clear until 3.35pm.
Two people were trapped within their vehicles and had to be cut free by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue service using hydraulic cutting equipment.
The male driver of one of the lorries was taken to the Horton Hospital, Banbury, with lower-limb injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening.
An environmental protection vehicle was also called as one of the lorries was transporting car batteries and a small amount of battery acid had spilled on to the carriageway, along with five pints of diesel.
A spokesman for the fire service said the spillage was contained.
Traffic was diverted and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
