A teenager was killed in a motorcycle crash just hours after he got his AS Level results.

Guy Evans, 17, died as he was riding with three friends in Featherbed Lane - a well known cut-through between Wantage and the Hendreds and Didcot - just before 9pm on Thursday night.

None of the other motorcycles is thought to have been involved in the crash and Guy, who lived in Long Wittenham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tonight one of his friends, Henry Cook, said Guy had only received his exam results that day and earlier this week had got his full motorcycle licence.

He said: "He was very happy about (passing his motorbike test).

"Guy was probably my best friend, the one who'd know what to always say to make me happier. The times we had will be forever at the front of my mind.

"He was an inspiration to me and helped me through every single time I was in trouble.

"He was always there for me and I regret that I never thanked him properly for it."

Mr Cook said he and Guy were part of a group called Spark in the Dark, which runs out of The Vibe youth club in Didcot and organises music events for young people around the town.

Friends gathered there today and Mr Cook said a page would be set up on the social networking website myspace.com for people to leave tributes to Guy.

Another friend, Joe Siemieniuk, said: "Guy was such a down-to-earth person.

"He always had a smile on his face. I've known him since pre-school and this is such a tragic loss of young life.

"He loved everything about motorcycling. He had his whole life ahead of him."

Police are appealing for any motorists in the area at about 8.50pm on Thursday to come forward.

Ivor Wells, 17, of Greensands, East Hendred, stopped to help at the scene with five of his friends.

He said: "It was quite bad. We were the first car on the scene about five seconds after it happened and I was there until about 10.30pm.

"There were three other people there too, all on motorbikes. They were all really distressed. We helped the paramedics."

Mr Wells believed Guy had been travelling in the direction of Didcot when the accident happened.

Thomas Corrigan, 43, a butcher at the nearby Q Gardens shop, said: "Lots of people use the road as a cut-through.

"It definitely needs more lighting and more marks on the road telling you it's a corner. There are no signs until you are right on top of it."

Robert Michalczyka, 32, who also works at the shop, said: "It would say it's a death trap.

"I have been here for seven years and I've heard about so many accidents on the road. It's so dark and the hedges are so high and close to the road."

Anyone with information should call Pc Sandra Terry at Abingdon traffic base on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

When i heard about this tragic news i was utterly shocked. Guy was always a cheerful and polite friend. Everytime i saw him, he always said hello to me and made me feel very welcomed. I used to have nice memorable conversations with him back in year 11 at geography where we talked about things no one else would understand.

The last time we had a good time was with our other friends from our peer group putting our gaming skills to the test as a team in call of duty against people all over the world.

It will be so sad to see him go. I'll always remember him as a true companion.

Kit.

Having this happen is unreal and i still dont want to believe it. I hope that his family and other relatives as well as friends are ok. Its shocking news for everyone and the people closest to him will be hit hard. He w as such a good mate. Anyone would agree.

I only really met him twice, but I knew him so well, through Xbox and all that. We always chatted and he always made me smile. If I was having a rubbish day he somehow knew the right things to say to me to make me feel happier. He was always the first one who wanted to talk to me and I never really appreciated that until now, and I'm going to miss it. He also helped my little brother by giving him advice on life and I know it helped him a lot and I am very grateful. I'm sorry we never had that second Macdonald's meal we kept talking about. Life isn't going to be the same without him, I will miss you. RIP

I still cant believe this has happened. We hadnt known eachother long but we'd become quite close. Guy was an amazing person, he was completely selfless and always knew what to say to put a smile on your face. He was one of the few people I felt I could talk about anything with.

I'll never forget you mate. You touched everyone who knew you and you will always have a place in our hearts. Lifes not going to be the same without you.

Rest in peace my friend.

It's difficult to find the words the to express the turmoil everyone goes through when a tragedy such as this happens. Guy was young, good, and did not deserve the fate handed to him. However, we must also learn to accept that life works in ways unfathomable to us, and as long as we remember Guy for who he was, he will never leave us. Guy, we will always have the memories. Rest In Peace, secure in the knowledge we will never forget you.

RIP m8, 3 years is too short, but i'll never forget it. "Can't Touch This", The school mosh pits and more recently CoD 4 sessions till some unholy hour, fueled by your perpetual humour and the fantastic team spirit you clearly inspired everywhere.

Goodbye m8, thank you for the memories and always making things that much better, you'll never be forgotten.

This lane should be shut. It's the most dangerous rat run in Oxfordshire, particularly when people pull out onto the main A417 in front of you.

I never knew guy but it seems that this road is a nightmare.....I use it myself and its very dangerous. If someone was to make a petition (not me, one of his family or friends would be best) then I would happily sign it.

Closing the road won't be a solution but it could be made 'one-way' - towards Milton. Then no one would exit onto the 417. A few white lines down the middle would help until then.

Peace to Guy and his family.
