Guides have smashing May celebration

HUNDREDS of Bank Holiday revellers helped Didcot Guides smash their fundraising target at their annual May Fair.

Didcot Guides hosted the event on Monday at the Civic Hall raising more than £2,000 - one thousand pounds more than last year.

Guides, Brownies and Rainbows from all over Didcot and district enjoyed plate smashing, craft and cake stalls, a tombola, raffles and a hook the duck competition.

Mayor Bernard Cooper opened the event. He judged the May Queen contest won by 11-year-old Jessica Appleton-Leach, from 1st Didcot Guides.

The proceeds will go towards buying a 99-year lease on their headquarters in Laburnum Grove, Didcot.
