A 14-year-old boy from Bicester was arrested and charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

He was arrested by plain-clothed neighbourhood officers at Bicester North railway station, Buckingham Road, at about 12.10pm yesterday after a youth was seen playing with a multi-tool that had a knife on it.

He was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and bailed to appear before Banbury Youth Court on September 4.

Bicester East neighbourhood officer PC Richie Iwanoff said: "People carrying knives will not be tolerated. If you choose to carry a knife you should expect to be arrested and put before the courts.

"This boy is facing a hard lesson; it is a strong message to anyone else that chooses to carry a weapon. That includes those who feel they need one to protect themselves: it can very easily be used against you and you are putting yourself in danger."

Frankly,

I think it is a joke that they have arrested a young boy because he was playing with a multitool!, its not as as if he wielding a samural sword, he had multitool, what a absolute waste of my hardearned taxes!

i think its brilliantly done...should catch all these people wondering around on the streets no matter what. And Darkhorse, i think you are not reading abt london stabbing where 14-15-16 yr old are killing other and raping people...so im with the officers and would certainly inform police if i see anything anywhere on the street of oxford no matter if he/she is chopping an apple with it.......i dont care a **** when it comes to carrying knife for a good cause!..its an offence so it is an OFFENCE!

A multi-tool (like a pocket knife) is not a weapon, but a tool! Knifes and the other implements on these things come in handy for all sorts of things, other than threatening and stabbing people. I agree that people shouldn't be walking around with straight blades or flick-knifes, but this is ridiculous. Soon they'll be arresting the entire Scout group!

Knifes are a worry, whatever type they are!! But wouldn't a bit of old policing have done the job just as well, rather than going to all the cost to the tax payers of going to court!! Oh!! What happened to a slap on the wrist and a good talking to boy and parents.

I do believe knifes are a worry, but i don't believe we can always blame the parents. Parents have a hard job with teenagers these days, you can give them all the advise in the world about what is right and wrong but you can't be with them 24 hrs a day and you can't search them everytime they leave the house. Knifes are a major worry for all including parents as bullying gets worse and kids feel they need protection as ASBO's don't seem to stop the kids that do behave this way. Kids ar being threatened everyday by their peers and beaten up and chased and when you report it not much happens because they are underage. If the police want to be zero tolerence on knife crimes they need to stop the trouble from the beginning and see how scared these youths are today. They need to start at the beginning and stop the bullying before it gets out of control the kids these days have more rights then anyone and they know how to play the system. Holding a knife is never acceptable but it won't stop untill we are more tougher on kids however small the bullying is.

The blade on my multi-tool would go through a finger quite easily. What was a 14yr old doing playing with a blade in a public place? Was it intended to be deliberate intimidation of fellow passengers? Next time any of you use public transport try doing the same and then judge the reaction you get. In this case the police were correct.

How funny. If this ‘boy’ had stabbed someone and seriously injured or killed someone then everybody would be saying where were the police and why didn’t they do something about this boy!!
The fact is that, in law, anything that has been made, intended or adapted to be an offensive weapon, can be an offensive weapon. From what has been released what the boy was seen with does not make it an ‘offensive weapon’ unless one of the above which suggests that he was going to use it against someone!! Lets hope this arrest may well have saved someone’s life.
Someone mentioned a ‘slap on the wrist’ – yeah because that has clearly worked on the youth in the past!!!
I say well done to the police, and as a Bicester resident, I am pleased that the neighbourhood officers are doing such things to catch people by doing plain clothes work. I think that the police should be commended for such actions.
Yet again the work of police make me feel much safer.

A multitool... hmm. When I go camping I have a small penknife which has come in very handy with certain things so I guess I'm a criminal.

Small knives are as much a worry as a pencil and to be fair a pencil can do as much damage as a small knife. Soon we'll have a situation where anyone with anything remotely pointed or sharp will be a criminal. If the multitool didn't have a knife on it would everyone have been relaxed about the whole thing? I mean lets face it, if it didn't have a knife but it had a screwdriver would he have been given the same treatment?

Anything can be made into a weapon but we can't outlaw everything (although we're not doing a bad job with the nanny state). I understand why the police got involved but I think it would have been better handled if his parents were involved and he got it confiscated.

I Know this boy well,
very well. and To be honest, He wouldn't have the guts to physically harm a being with this 'MultiTool.'
not that it could do much harm anyway.

Arresting? Stupid. Word of caution and have a chat with the parents? That would have been sensible.

Look at what happened in Canada? A guy kills someone with a knife and then there's a call to license all knives... but that would have to include steak knives and such... Where's that modicum of common sense people?

Next weeks headline :

"Bicester Girl held over excessive perfume use.

Tanya, 14 from Kings End was held on a charge of knowingly using excessive own-brand 'body mist' purchased from Superdrug whilst loitering in a Kebab shop in the Market Square.

Police say the girl is co-operating with their inquiries and has named co-conspirators as :

'Chelle, 'Neeta and Befneee

All three girls are apparently wearing garishly cheap gold jewelery and were last seen wearing white jeans and dark bomber jackets."
