A man says he is fighting a constant battle to park his vehicle in a permit zone after the council allowed people living nearby to park there.

Cherwell District Council which introduced north Oxfordshire's first residents' parking scheme at the start of the year, said people living in King's End and Oxford Road, Bicester, would be allowed to park their vehicles in the permit-controlled sections of King's End.

But Colin Vinall, of King's End, said: "People in Oxford Road never parked here before so why is the council allowing them to park here now?"

The 51-year-old, self-employed carpenter, added: "It's a battle to get a space each day.

"I have paid for my permit, I don't get a guaranteed space, so what am I paying for? Nothing?"

Cherwell's licensing and vehicle parks manager Natasha Barnes said: "In many cases the number of households exceed the number of available spaces. Where this is the case it was explained that the parking will have to be on a first come, first served basis."

resident of oxford road, Bicester says...

Having been a resident of Oxford road (Kings End) for 14 years me and my neighbours have always parked here. There has been on going problems since the permits which we have all paid for, were issued. I suggest if the gentleman in question would like to park outside his house, with a guaranteed space, he buys a house with a drive !!!!
