Seven men broke out of controversial detention centre Campsfield House in Kidlington this morning, it has been confirmed.

Police have already recaptured three detainees and are hunting for the remaining four.

Police were called in at 3.45am today by staff at the centre requesting assistance in dealing with the incident, spokesman Victoria Bartlett said.

She added: "The Home Office has informed us that seven detainees have escaped.

"Officers have been carrying out a thorough search of the area.

"Three of the detainees have since been recaptured. The other four remain outstanding."

Supt Howard Stone, commanding the police response, said: "We are working with GEO as well as the UK Border Agency to ensure everything is done, as quickly as possible, to locate the missing detainees.

"However, I would ask that if members of the public see anyone acting suspiciously and believes they may have been involved in this incident to contact the police immediately."

Today is the fifth outbreak of trouble at Campsfield, which holds about 215 men, in 16 months.

In August 26 men broke out of Campsfield.

Oxford West and Abingdon MP Evan Harris said he was trying to find out more information from the Home Office.

Lads, lads, they'll be easy to spot. Well fed, in the peak of health, all togged up in the smart clothes WE have provided them with.

There are two main parties involved in the failure of Campsfield, the government/home office for trying to run the place on a shoe string and GEO for thinking they can. Staff morale is at an all time low with officers leaving on almost a weekly basis. The reason? Silly GEO management thinking and decisions like: nothing will happen at night so we'll have less staff on duty - sorry, if you wanted to get out of the place you're going to try it in broad daylight?

Yeah, that £37 a week while the government refuses to let them work will keep them in top-notch condition. If they get cold on the run, I guess they can just burn all that Dior and Valentino you've paid for.

Inform yourself, David. It must be difficult hating people for bogus reasons.

They talked it over and all said i want to breakfree so they hatched a plan to breakthru.

Each became the invisible man whilst waiting for the hammer to fall.

In a flash the news media geared up for an ogre battle and innuendo was heard to augment the usual radio gaga.

Listeners were keen to hear how another one bites the dust but were dissapointed that when recaptured some of the men only wanted somebody to love whilst another in the dock stated all i wanna do is bicycle.
