The spirit of Christmas shone brightly at Christ Church Cathedral, in Oxford, at a fundraising event for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

The charity traditionally holds evenings of festive carols and music in some of Britain’s most beautiful places of worship and Oxford hosted its first on Wednesday, the first of 12 to be held across the country.

Music was provided by the Oxford Welsh Male Voice Choir and the choir from The Dragon School.

Oxford writer Candida Crewe Wiley read an extract from a book by her father, the late food and travel writer Quentin Crewe, who suffered from the disease.

Oxford researchers are among those at the forefront of the battle against muscular dystrophy.

The event was sponsored by The Oxford Times.
