An unemployed father-of-four who lied about having tickets to a number of concerts — making £4,885 — walked free from court.

Terry Garvey pretended to sell tickets for Robbie Williams, Westlife and the T in the Park music festival on the Internet auction site eBay.

Oxford Crown Court heard Garvey, of Lodden Avenue, Berinsfield, took money from 15 different victims, but never sent them the tickets.

Trudi Yeatman, prosecuting, said the often young victims suffered dual-pronged disappointment: “Not only did they lose the money, but they also did not receive the tickets.”

Garvey, 34, today admitted 16 charges of obtaining a money transfer by deception and two of obtaining property by deception.

Joanne Sear, defending, said Garvey had to give up his job as a landscape gardener due to ill-health and was in financial difficulties.

Judge Christopher Compston handed Garvey a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, and a six month supervision order.

He also banned him from Internet auction sites for two years, but did not order compensation because of Garvey’s financial circumstances.

And here's an article highlighting EXACTLY what is wrong with this country!!

Out of work or not, theft is theft, and this scum should serve his jail sentence.

Actually he was selling for a company that went bust after taking money off 9100 people! If he had listed as a company it wouldn't have even gone to court. Also, they were all adults that bought the tickets. This article has an unfair slant.

He is a waste of space scumbag and should serve his sentance. Good money earner for him as he doesnt have to pay it back either!

someone should publish his address and let the people who have lost out have a word with him in person.

I am disgusted that he does not have to pay the money back or serve a sentance! What does this tell other would-be criminals?

Luckily this wasn't a really serious criminal offence like using a mobile phone in your car or parking outside your own house. These offences need to be clamped down hard on, I mean what harm does robbery, deception or drug use do any one.
Its obviously not important as the victims don't even get their money back.
Pathetic - absolutley pathetic.
