Police are appealing for witnesses after a car was stolen in Aston, near Bampton.

At about 6.20am yesterday, a black Audi A4 ‘56 plate’ was stolen from outside a house in the Square.

The owner of the vehicle had left the keys in the front door of their house while they popped back inside and within a few minutes heard the sound of their vehicle being driven off at speed.

PC Matt Gorman said: “The owner of the car saw a silver vehicle being cut up by the stolen Audi that was travelling towards Standlake. I appeal to the driver of this vehicle to contact police as they may be able to assist our enquiries.

“I advise people to make sure they have their keys with them at all time and not leave them in your door or in your vehicle even if it is just for a second. Most offenders are opportunists so please don’t give them the opportunity to steal your property.”
