Jericho's 'Lazy Saturday' event is returning this weekend in time to take advantage of the warmer weather.

The free event takes place beside the Oxford Canal and features Little Ox beer, Tom’s German sausages and five live music acts - Jim Driscoll, Bonnie Tonya, The Thurston Bayne Band, Niki Savage, and Ricky & Tommy.

The mini-festival takes place in Mount Place next to the Canal Bridge at the end of Canal Street.

There's no entry fee but people are encouraged to make a donation.

Oxford Mail: A Lazy Saturday eventOrganiser John Mair said: "It’s a pleasure to bring back Lazy Saturday for 2024.

"It shows what you can do when you use a public space for the benefit of the public. Come along and enjoy."

The 10th Lazy Saturday event took place in July last year when Mount Place was filled with music, entertainment and beer.

Alcohol was in full flow thanks to Tap Social and there was vegetarian food supplied by Damascus Rose Kitchen, which is manned by Syrian women refugees.

Council charges for the community event in Jericho were reduced from £260 to £100 by Oxford City Council in April last year following complaints by organisers.

Oxford Mail: A Lazy Saturday eventCity councillor Shaista Aziz, cabinet member for inclusive communities and culture, said last year in an email to Mr Mair: "Oxford City Council has reviewed its fees and charges for events and introduced a new category of ‘microsite’.

"In response to the cost of living crisis and given the important role events play in bringing communities together and promoting culture, we have balanced the budgets to do so.

"I am pleased to say that Mount Place is included on the new list of microsites which from now on will be hired at a significantly lower fee of £100 per event per day."

One-day festivals have also taken place in recent years in Little Clarendon Street, off Walton Street.

The third Little Clarendon Street festival, designed to boost trade, took place in 2019.
