Abingdon Drama Club is set to stage an absurdist tragicomedy based on a Shakespeare play next month.
From April 17-20 Tom Stoppard's 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead' will be at the Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon.
The play revolves around two minor characters from Shakespeare's Hamlet - Rosencrantz and Guildenstern - as well as the Player, played by Michael Ward, and the Tragedians.
The courtiers, portrayed by Kieran Madden and Chris Bedford respectively, are caught "in the wings" of the original Hamlet plot, driving the play's narrative with their futile actions.
Director Terry Atkinson, Abingdon Drama Club's chairman and one of its most active members, said: "I love both the main characters - Guildenstern is the cynic, whereas Rosencrantz is more innocent and wider-eyed about the world."
He added: "It's a cracking idea, to create a play out of two very minor characters in Hamlet.
"I love the surrealist humour brought by Stoppard.
"It’s a fast-paced show with, in my opinion, some of the best dialogue ever put on a stage."
Tickets are for sale, priced at £12 with concessions at £10 for seniors, children under 12, students, and Abingdon Drama Club members.
Group tickets for 10 or more people are priced at £10 each.

The first staging of this play was at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1966.
