Banbury's award-winning Youth of Banbury Operatic Society (YOBOS) has announced a taster day for the upcoming summer production, 'School of Rock'.

Having turned 20 last year, YOBOS continues its goal of providing young talents, aged 11 to 19, with first-hand experience of a West End style musical production.

Thanks to a team of dedicated and skilled volunteers, the charity produces a fully staged musical in just one week during the summer holiday.

YOBOS has been responsible for recent such shows as 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie', 'In the Heights', 'Legally Blonde', 'Hairspray', 'Grease', and 'Rock of Ages'.

Praised by both members and audiences, YOBOS' 'high-quality' productions have earned them national recognition and an array of awards.

Some of the participants have even progressed to top UK Drama Schools, with some securing lead roles in London’s West End.

This summer's production, School of Rock, based on the 2003 film, will tell the story of Dewey Finn, a failing rock star turned substitute teacher.

Finn shakes up the straight-A student's lives by transforming them into a successful rock band.

The musical promises laughter, heartfelt moments, and the infectious energy of rock and roll.

Ben Coleman, youth officer for YOBOS, said: "We are all so excited to be bringing this incredible musical to the Banbury stage.

"For the past 20 years, YOBOS has staged a number of amazing productions and seen the growth of countless incredible young performers.

"We couldn't be more proud of them and hope to invite more aspiring young performers this year to be part of School of Rock."

Making his debut as a director for the production, Jonas Bal said: "I couldn't be more thrilled to be given the opportunity to direct this fantastic show that celebrates the power of music!

"YOBOS has inspired and encouraged me.

"We hope to welcome lots of young people - new and returning - to YOBOS for what I can promise will be the most incredible experience."

YOBOS invites all young individuals, aged 11-19, interested in performing or working behind the scenes to attend the taster day for the production.

It takes place on March 24, from 2pm to 6pm at Christopher Rawlins Primary School, Adderbury.

The event costs £5 and allows attendees the opportunity to meet the YOBOS team, gain insights into the show, and express their interest in this exciting production.
