New World versus Old World mixed case, £80

10:31am Sunday 20th July 2008

Can the New World match up to the quality of the Old World? The debate rumbles on, but with South Africa producing such excellent examples of French-style wines these days it is becoming a great deal harder to decide the outcome of such a contest. Here's your chance to decide for yourself.

The New World versus Old World mixed case costs £80 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.

Touraine Sauvignon Domaine Guy Allion 2007, Loire: Crisp, zippy Loire sauvignon with loads of ultra-fresh fruit - perfect with seafood and summer salads.

Dwyka Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2006, South Africa: Plenty of tropical fruit here with ripe grassy and lemon flavours plus a classic zesty aspect that really lifts the wine - a good aperitif and just great with fish dishes.

Chateau Pin-Franc Merlot-Cabernet 2006, Bordeaux: Traditional-style Bordeaux blend that is an excellent food wine. Try it with beef, charcuterie or pasta.

Vergelegen Mill Race Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, South Africa: Superbly made, mature Bordeaux blend showing rich, ripe, dried-fruit character - great with rich foods and dishes.
