Wallingford's Sinodun Players have given audiences a sneak peek of their performance of The Welkin, which will be playing at the Corn Exchange this week from today (Wednesday, October 18) to Saturday, October 21 at 7.30pm.
Set in 1759 in a rural county town on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk, The Welkin portrays a passionate plea for humanity and mercy in a world where the law and justice are only incidental bedfellows, touching on many issues with parallels to today's world.
Cast member Alex Stephens described the play as: "A very powerful drama, very funny and all about the dynamics between a group of strong female characters and how they interact."
Before the coronavirus pandemic the play was staged at the National Theatre and starred Maxine Peake, receiving critical acclaim.
