More than 400 motorists were caught speeding on Oxfordshire's roads during a week-long campaign.

Police carried out road checks throughout the Thames Valley during a European road safety week.

In Oxfordshire, 406 drivers were spotted speeding, compared with 119 in Buckinghamshire and 103 in West Berkshire.

More than 1,100 were caught across the region.

Drivers stopped for travelling between 35mph and 39mph in 30mph zones were given a talk by road safety officers.

Those between 40mph and 49mph were issued a fixed penalty notice of £60 and three penalty points on their licences, while motorists doing more than 50mph will be taken to court.

Traffic officer Sgt Chris Appleby said: "It's disappointing that more than 1,000 motorists were exceeding the speed limit through inattention and, in some cases, total disregard.

"Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership, in conjunction with Thames Valley Police, will continue to target such behaviour with all means at our disposal."

The road safety week finished on Sunday.

Bear this in mind, in about 6 weeks from now the clocks go back. And me and my mates can't wait to catch all you unsuspecting citizens who re just trying to get to and from work (in the dark) when you can't see us.
Think of all the money we can give to our Master, gordon Clown.

Why would the Police stop you for going through an amber light when it's not an offence to do so?

This leaves the camera weilding lead-swingers of the force with the choice of either doing some real police work and catching the criminals or going out to criminalise many people who are honest tax payers and aren't really criminals.

Before anyone gets all upset and sings the "think of the children" rubbish, don't walk into the road and you won't get run over by someone who just wants to go to and from work without being hit with a fine for going about their business.
