It is all very well and good advising that, but try getting permission from a student letting agent or landlord to do that. Even if permission is given, generally their authorised workmen/companies have to be used and the rates are far from competitive. In my experience many student property landlords speak very little english and seem to think because it is a student property they don't have to make any improvements/mainten
ance, even though the rent is pretty much the same as a professional letting. And try getting any quality of service from the student letting agents based around Cowley....
