Cherwell College, Oxford

Cherwell College Oxford is an independent co-educational boarding and day school located in Oxford city centre for students aged between 14 and 19 years.

Cherwell prides itself as an elite educational provider with approximately 75 students in the College, of which around 50 are boarders.

The College is an exam centre for all exam boards and is able to enrol students at any point of the academic year.

Cherwell students go on to read courses at Russell Group universities including UCL, Imperial and other London universities, as well as Oxford and Cambridge.

Cherwell College Oxford study centres are surrounded by the 39 colleges which constitute Oxford University. The main Admin and Study Centres are situated in the very heart of the city of Oxford: George Street/Cornmarket Street.

Boarding students reside at the College’s purpose-built student accommodation, Cherwell House, which is comprised of 55 en-suite single study bedrooms, and located within a short walking distance from Oxford’s main train station and the major transport links.

All meals are provided by an esteemed chef, and boarders are looked after by the residential welfare team who are responsible for pastoral care and support.

The College offers a bespoke educational provision with a wide range of A-Level and (I)GCSE courses including:

  • Traditional 2-year A-Level and GCSE programmes;
  • Fast track 1-year intensive A Level and GCSE programmes;
  • A-Level and GCSE retake programmes;
  • A range of short-term academic programmes and revision courses during the schools’ conventional holiday period (Easter, Summer, half-term breaks) - aimed to provide revision, extra academic support to students currently studying in the UK

The teaching is based on the Oxbridge tutorial system, offering small group and one-to-one tuition, supplemented by private and supervised studies, progress tests and mock examinations. Students also have the opportunity to develop their research and learning skills through the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Enrichment activities are a large part of the student life at Cherwell, with regular student club meetings, professorial talks, debate workshops and sporting activities.

The College school year mirrors the Oxford University terms, with activities such as our Science Club corresponding with Oxford Science Festival, which takes place in Michaelmas Term, the National Debating competition and Oxford Literary Festival in Hilary Term, and Oxford Art Festival in Trinity Term.
